Exclamation new engine - air pump?

I got a call from my mechanic today. He is installing my new engine, which is a 302 with GT40 heads. He complained that the heads don't have ports for the air pump tube. He said that the only way he can get my truck running with my new motor is without the air pump connected. Anyone ever used the GT40 heads and had this issue? Should I expect check engine lights, or other issues? If it does kick codes, could it be possible for Mike Troyer to work some magic with the tune to compensate? I have no idea how important this air pump is, or what affect it has on the engine. Any advice would be appreciated.
