Engine oil!

Hello, I have recently noticed that when i crank my truck up and while its running i am expierenceing a lot of exhuast fumes and smoke. The truck is a 2001 5.4 v8 triton with approx. 108,000 miles on it. I have recently swichted my oil from Penzoil to Mobil 1 and I changed it for the first time in several months last three have not had time so stoped by quick jiffy lube and got it done. This time i changed it and used Mobil 1 oil and a Pureulator oil filter. what would the added exhaust be from.

What color is the smoke. If it is white then it could be from adding too much oil. If it is black i think it means you are running lean/rich. Also possibly maybe be caused from getting oil on the exhaust while changing it.
Just my 2 cents

i hate to be that guy who brings up the technical end of things but the penzoil you were uding was a convensional oil mobil 1 is a synthetic. synthetic oils at a molecular level are a lot smaller/thinner then conventionalso they get in to smaller spaces and can leak more easily in your case it sounds like it gets in to the combution chamber and is burning like a verry expensive fuel aditive my advice is to keep a good eye on oil level and switch to a blended oil

i dont like mobile 1.. it doesnt last long or cling to parts like it should its super thin. i get loads of blow by through the PCV and it burns up quick. it also dont last 15K miles like they say. more so 7-8K and thats highways miles to and from dallas weekly. i switched to full synthetic quaker state its thicker. got rid of my cam follower tick on cold start up. it doesnt give me any blow by truck runs great and this stuff stays cleaner. its got about 4500miles on it now. im about to chang it.. also its about 2 bucks less per quart compared to mobile 1

My experience with Mobil 1 for the first 50K on my truck was that it burned off quick and made the engine sound noisy. Switched to Motorcraft 5w-20 and consumption is notably down. Go back to Pennzoil or any other SM rated conventional or synthetic blend and see if your issues go away.

try using Valvoline max life.. its for higher mileage vehicles.. are you currently using synthetic? if so... then dont use this.. it will cause your motor to leak .. i dont believe in synthetic.. its just over priced and over rated for over achieveres..
i only use synthetic in my lawn mower and in generators and in my air compressor.. never abuse my vehicles..with that.. now if my vehicles were new that might been a another story but since they had some miles on them when i bought them i keep using conventional..

the first 80K always used motorcraft synthetic blend. then when i got it i started using full synthetic. it coats the parts unlike conventional oil that doesnt. so its long wear protection and contains more cleaning detergents thats about the only benifets for synthetics over regular

If I had 108,000 miles on an engine and had no oil related problems, and was not consuming oil, I do not think I would risk causing problems by changing oil. If it was working, why change? Plus, I have read repeatedly, if you switch to a synthetic on an engine with higher miles, you most likely will start having leaks.

As time goes by and seals wear and tear oil deposits get into the damaged seal area and make a "faux" seal. When people switch to synth and sometimes report leaks it is not that the synth caused this leak but rather the increased cleaning detergents in the synth washed away those deposits that were preventing leaks before and now your already worn seal starts to leak. If you have a well maintained engine you should have no problem switching to synth at anytime. People often do it at well over 100k miles. I do reccomend though on higher milage engines to use an engine flush to remove as much crap from the motor as you can before swapping. A motor with that high of milage probably has some sludge build up and could use a quick cleaning.

I don't think it is a Mobil 1 issue. I think it is a switching issue at the mileage that you have. If the Pennzoil was conventiona, the Mobil 1 is fully synthetic, and is going to cause problems at that mileage. If you had less than 30K-40K when you did the switch, then I'd say okay it is something else.....I switched from conventional to Mobil 1 at about 30K. I have 216,000 on my 97 5.4L, and don't have any issues at all with the engine. In fact, it runs better now then when I got it........

Thanks, for all the info and yeah i am gonna take it to my mechanic (very trust worthy - i think the only one i have found using him for 8 years now and never a problem) ne ways back to point he's gonna look at the oil and check for leaks and other issues.

this is the oil i had previosuly used. whats the difference between syn. blend and fully syn. i am swicthing back to the penzoil it ran better anyways more horses out of it and its cheaper than mobil 1.

synth blend is part dino and part synth. usually just dino refiend enough they call it synth. Mobil 1 is more expensive because the base stock is a true synth
