Stripped a plug hole today.

Actually its not stripped yet. I cross threaded one today. Just in a very slight way. It feels about 2 threads down. ( I know, how freaking lame), I still can't believe I did it. I've got a 2001 with the 4.6 V-8.
Anyone know a solution other than a heli coil. I picked up a thread chaser at auto zone but the socket it needs is to big to go down the hole.
If I've got to take it somewhere, does anyone have any ideas as to the damage(cost). Thanks, bullseye670............

Oh yea, its the no. 6 plug. Second one back on the drivers side. Not to hard to get at.

Get a chaser with a smaller socket head, and cover it in grease before you run it in there. THat clean it up and hold onto the shavings

Yep. Even crap auto parts stores (like the biggest chain) have thread chasers. Take a plug along so you get the correct chaser.

I'm going to try and get a metric 10 mm tap, I,m hoping that may get it done. Also thinking that if I can't get a thread chaser with a smaller diameter that perhaps I might be able to welod a small socket on the end of the larger one I bought yesterday. Man I could really just shoot myself.
I've found a repair kit on line that is supposed to be for repairing a f-150 v-8 plug hlole with a proper insert, $375. No need to remove the head. I thinking that a good garage or dealer might have that kind of equipment.

Oh yea, keep the stripper unless she's fat and ugly................
