Exclamation 2000 F-150 Stalls and has irregular idle

Hi All,

Recently my 2000 F-150 w/ 5.4 started having an irregular idle and stalling. It will typically happen when I get in it in the morning and turn it over. It will start no problem but will not maintain steady idle until something kicks on. I am not sure what it is that kicks on but once it does, the idle returns to normal. Otherwise I have to pull up to a stop light slightly on the gas to prevent it from stalling.

Any thoughts on what it could be? I just got done running a tank of premium through it with no results.

Thanks,
Mike

Iac

check the IAC (Idle Air Control). Mine stuck last year a bunch. After you run it for a while the thing will open up but it will get bad enough to stay stuck. Not an expensive fix. Truck will run really well when replaced or cleaned out. Search for it on the site. Good luck.

Replace the IAC and put a new gasket on it also it only 2 8mm bolts. Cleaning it does put a bandaid on it for now but it will need to be replaced.

Thumbs up

Bought a new IAC from Ford dealer $100. Disconnected neg battery lead and replaced IAC. reconnected battery and all seems fine. Haven't taken for a spin yet but started couple times and idles correctly now. After inspecting old one, I could see how this could cause the problem. Thanks for the input!!!
