Frustrated

OK, most of you know what kind of problems I have been having with my truck.
So, now I have replaced COP 1 with sparkplug, EGR vavle, EGR sensor and replaced the fuel filter.
Truck runs better, but still kind of shakes when driving, mostly accelerating. It is not as bad as before, but still annoying.
What else can I do, change or check????
And, I have a 99 f-150 5.4 V8.

To end your frustration, I think I've suggested once or twice you have to change all your COP's - $130 on ebay.

You may want to go to the transmission forum and do a search on torque converter shimmy. It may be the problem is not with the engine.

I know, but whenever I have had any code come up in the past year or two, it was for COP 1. I'm just afraid to do it I guess. I have to convince my wife to spend that much.
Should I also check into my injectors???

How many miles? Yes, be absolute as to where the problem is and it can fool you (your shaking) - At one time my truck shook and vibrated like crazy and I thought for sure it was my trans - all it needed was the rear end fluid changed and that ford friction modifier (doubled up on it lol) and my problem disappeared.

Tell the wife the dealership charges $986.62 to change out your COP's(that was my estimate last spring -pts/lbr). So parting with $130 isn't bad and if you don't fix it your PCM is gonna start shuttin chit down on you (injectors), On a misfire issue this will happen in time to protect your CATS - It's just not good to keep your running your motor this way , your promoting future problems that could be very costly when the time comes. Just tell her like it is man..( :

Injectors your problem? - It's possible.

Tell me this , when your driving , about 45mph just after your truck shifts into overdrive as you accelerate at this point, how does it run? Is this when it runs the worse? or no change?
Now that you changed out one of your COP's - the other seven should be cake, right..
It's not that bad -time consuming though. UcanDo

if not transmission problems, maybe a wheel somewhere is unbalanced or a couple tires could use some air my suggestion.

guyscrew, I just had them rotated today just to rule that out. Same thing.

Jbrew, I was leaving that same tire shop and around 30 mph or so, it was rattling/shaking again.
As far as when it does it more, I will pay more attention to it, but I think it is pretty much even or just does it more over 45 mph.
I also notice that when I turn the OD button to off, it doesnt shake as much.
As far as the COP's I heard 4 and 8 were a BIATCH!!!
As far as miles, I have 97,000 on this bad boy.
Seems to me after I changed the fuel filter, it started to shake more.

Changing your filter just excited your problem , sounds like you needed to -better fuel flow just made your problem more pronounced - can't ruel out an injector problem, I personaly don't think that's it - I would replace the COPs .
You heard 4 and 8 are biatch huh , nahhh, just jack it up -pull the front tires off of her , set it back down on a couple blocks of wood - makes it allot easier - if there still hard to reach , just jack up the back end a little bit lol..
Make sure your rear end isn't shaking your truck - if you haven't changed the diff fluid in awhile the modifier breaks down and will cause shaking and shuddering.

instead of taking tires off, just air down to 3 or 4 psi so they don't pop thebead and you can reach them a lot easier.
on another note, you may need to do an injector balance test. this involves putting a QUALITY fuel pressure gauge on your rail and an injector pulser. You can find them online. test is very simple and may indicate a weak or partially clogged injector.
If the vibration changes when you kick it out of o/d, you may have a tranny prob(not like an Eddie Murphy tranny prob, thats different)
Any way, you need to isolate both rpm sensitivity and mph sensitivity. possibly bad ujoint if it vibes. if it is missing... that will lead you in another direction. try putting it on four jackstands and running it through the gears. if you have vibration that is nearly the same it is probably trans/shaft issues.this is beacuse the load characteristics change and the engine doesn't lug against the driving forces from the road.Just make sure your stands are set right and don't let anyone around the truck while you are doing it. hope it helps.

well, it happens more when I accelerate, so it has to be some sort of fuel problem somewhere. When I press on the gas, it kind of putt putts or something like that. When the truck is sitting still, I can barely feel it doing it which is better than before changing all of this stuff. I also noticed it more when I am driving at speeds greater than 45 or 50 mph.
I will order the COP's later this week I guess. Im waiting for my gas to run to atleast 1/4 of a tank since I put some fuel system cleaner a day ago. Once I fill it back up, I will see what happens.

I'll say this again. Sometimes the transmission shudder will act just like that. Some have mistaken it for an engine miss. Unless you are sure it is from the engine then click this link

It's your COP's I know if - No engine light? - force one - drive to an area where you can run about 90mph - A speed about 48-50mph normaly , then floor it !! You should get a blinking Check Engine light between 85 -90 - Get i t read at auto zone - at least you'll be able to pinpoint the cylinder which is giving you problems . Injector problem or COP problem , that year truck like mine will produce a blinking MIL this way.

Hey guys, I am new to this forum and actually this is my first post. Don't mean to butt in, but I had a similar problem a few years back. Turned out to be a out of balance (slightly bent) drive shaft. Cheap and easy to check.
