EGR Valve Replacement Help
EGR Valve Replacement Help
Long Story Short - I am trying to replace my EGR valve and had a couple of questions. The bolts that hold the valve on are 10mm and looks like I'll need a deep socket to get the one in the back off.
Questions:
1) What about the pipe with the large fitting, what is the best way to get this off? Does that fitting actually rotate? Or is it better to undo the valve completely and rotate the valve off of the pipe?
2) If the fitting on the pipe does rotate and I need a wrench, does anyone know the size of it? Apparently in a flash of brilliants I stored most of my non-everyday tools (socket sets, large wrenches, etc...) in storage because we are building a house. It would take about a day just to get to the work bench where they are, which is of course all the way in the back of the storage building. So looks like I'll be getting to buy a few extra tools.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long Story - Had a code of P1406 and I replaced the DPFE sensor. Truck ran fine up until the other day and my check engine light came on again and this time it is code 402 (if I remember correctly), which ever code is for a bad reading from the EGR valve. I reset the code to see if maybe it was just a one time bad reading and it tripped it again yesterday. So I was going to replace the EGR valve to see if this helps. I have read several post that suggest to clean up the throttle body but I'm not sure if I am ready to tackle that just yet. This looks pretty detailed and straight forward:

But I may have to wait for a weekend in which there are not any good college football games on and I can be with out my truck for a weekend in case I screw something up.

Thanks for the heads up on the bolts breaking off. I may pick up something to help free them up.

By the time it's all said and done I may end up spending more money then it would have cost me at a shop but the wife will never know that.
how you figure that... if you bought the parts already to do it yourself... then your not payin for labor.. if you take it to the shop get ready to spend 65 and hour for labor... cause its about 2 hour job...at ford and they dont get in no hurry for no one.......... so you do the math
let me know how it turns out.... my *** is tired i havent been to bed yet... working nights sucks ***...
