Help! Motor stalls when I hit accelerator???

OK, so when I hit the gas from idle, my truck stumbles all over itself and sometimes even stalls. I've had a couple of dicey situations when the truck has stalled while trying to cross an intersection. Anyone know what could be causing this? So far I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor cap, fuel filter and a bad catalytic convertor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hunter

It it a 1990 F250 with a 351. And by the way, when it dies, it is difficult to start again. I have to floor the accelerator while cranking to get it re-started.

Thanks,
Hunter

You got it....crap.

Not easy nor cheap to replace. I've heard new pumps go for over $300.

If you have dual tanks you can try just using the other one for the time being, since they have seperate in-tank(thanks, Ford ) pumps. If you're handy and have a high tolerance for frustration and gas fumes, then DIY.

Without starting the motor and the door open, turn the key to ON but don't start the motor. You should hear an audible "whirr" from the selected tank. If it's faint(should be easily audible) or you can't hear it, it's going or gone. It must still be going if the motor runs at all, since the high pressure might be able to sustain it's prime with only minimal low pressure(in-tank) flow. The motor won't run at all if either one is bad, and almost always the in-tank one goes.

Ok guys...I listened for the pumps priming (dual tanks), and both sound strong. I thought that you guys were probably right, but now I don't think that the pumps are the problem. The problem occurs no matter which tank I'm using. I'm perplexed now. Oh well, I guess I'll just wait until the other shoe drops. Thanks fellas, I knew I could count on your help.

Have a good one

I agree about the flooding...it seems like it does it worse when it has idled 10 seconds or more. Maybe the computer is still compensating for the clogged cat that I had replaced about 150 miles ago??? Would re-flashing the computer make a difference? And no, I don't think it is throwing any codes. The dash light isn't on, and I don't have a code reader to check it. I just can't justify $300-$350 for an ODB 1 code reader.

Thanks guys,
Hunter

had the same problem with my 5.0..its all the fuel pump in the rear tank.or by the frame rail...you can get a tool from oreillys for about 8 bucks and keep it forever..or your starter..thats what was wrong with mine..hope this is some help...

after i replaced my fuel pump..my starter went out..but that might just be because it was 4 years old..the fuel pump is a pain to get off..but just be patient and get the tool..i am glad i bought one

My tranlations: His 5.0 had a bad fuel pump in the rear tank. Great. KSU checked his fuel pumps and they're working. Next he mentions a tool. Not quite sure what tool, as there's a few tools at O'Reiley's. And then he says it could be the starter's fault???? WTF? Wha..how?
Next he says his starter went out cause it's 4 years old, and to buy the tool. What is "the tool?"
