Oil pressure extreme drop...

OK. I know this isn't about my ford, but I need help quick, and don't have time to find/become a member of some Dodge forum...

My 1996 RAM 1500 has this little thing that bugs me. Whenever I push the accelerator (regarless of how hard), the oil pressure drops to 0. Any ideas as to why?

I understand that on tight turns, the oil will all slosh to one side, making the pressure drop, but I drive like a grandpa trying to save in fuel (even though it's a v-8), so I know it's not the oil all going to the back of the pan pr anything like that.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice. (and sorry it's not a Ford question this time.)

Could be a quirk in the gauge caused by a voltage flux when you step on the gas or a faulty sensor. Does the gauge return to normal afterwards? If the gauge pops right back up again I wouldn't worry about it, since a motor's oil pressure isn't going to go from normal(30-50psi or so) to nothing instantly. On older motors with true pressure-line gauges, it takes a good 10-15seconds for the gauge to hit 0 after killing the motor and the pressure to fade. At least it did on my '71 Beetle motor.

Of all the gauges people report quirks with, the oil pressure ranks #1. The gauge in my Cherokee goes to 0 and the b*tch alarm goes off if it idles on a hot day for more than a minute or so, then would pop back up as soon as you touched the gas. Still haven't fixed it, I don't care.

ahhh. I see. I guess, then, I should ignore it. Not worth the price for something that miniscule. It passed inspection last week, so...guess I'm fine.

Yeah--it's up as soon as I stop the revs from increasing (ie: at a cruise at any speed, it's at normal levels.)

Thanks for the reply and the peace of mind.
