96 to 94 5.0 engine swap

Hello all,
I have a 96 F150 that has suffered some fairly severe damage to the front end/steering in an accident, I found a 94 F150 4X4 that has thrown a rod, high mileage but good body. I have started to remove the engine from the 94 and I am noticing some minor differences in the EGR system, and my question is are there any major computer changes between these years, and if so what else will need to be swapped?

Thanks,
Don

Pre 97 models should be pretty much compatible. Not sure about computer but I doubt you will have any issues.

There are major differences between the 95 and older F150's and the 96. The motors themselves are interchangeable, but the computer and much of the electronics are very different. The 96 is a mass air vehicle, but the 95 and older are speed density. When you do the swapout, use only the hard parts, and you'll be fine.

Woahhh!!!!

The '96 has a completely different computer setup due to being OBDII. '95s and before are OBDI.

Use your '94s sensors, wiring harness, and computer to make it all work on the '96 block.

302 MAF from 94-96.
351 MAF from 95-96.

Thanks again guys, this is going to save a bunch of headaches.
At the risk of sounding like an idiot though, what do OBDI and OBDII stand for?

Thanks again,
Don

No worries! On Board Diagnostics versions 1 and 2. '96 was a government mandate for all cars and trucks in the US to have a common connection in the cab for a universal scan tool. This requred Ford to completely redo the '86 302's/'87 351's and 300's/88 460's thorugh '95 computer setup which is now known as OBD1

You might want to spend some time reading www.fordfuelinjection.com
