5.4 trouble

It all started when i ran out of gas. After I got gas in it, sometimes when i turn it on it will turn right back off. When it finally starts running it will idle real low a lot lower then normal. I cleaned out my throttle body and put injector cleaner in the tank, it helped for all of a day and it went back. Any help will be appreciated.

Any check engine lights? Clean out the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on the back of the throttle body and see if that helps. Replace the fuel filter, you may have sucked up some trash from the tank and the line is clogged. Also, check the fuel pump it may be shot. The in tank pumps require fuel surrounding them to keep cool. If you ran the tank totally dry the pump could have overheated and is not working properly. Just a start. Keep us posted.

Change your fuel filter.

Seafoam your injectors..

That would be a good start.

Good Luck ( :

I agree with jbrew, You most likely clogged your fuel filter when all the crud in the bottom of your tank ran through it.

What year is your truck? For the later models, it requires a special tool. Not hard to do. Do a search on the subject and you will find a lot of info.
