fuel filter question?
fuel filter question?
do i need a special tool to change my fuel filter? 2000 f-150 4.6 2wd. if not how the heck do you change it ? and if i do need a tool is it cheap and can i get it at autozone? thanks
I am not sure about the 2000, but on later models, it requires a special tool. I got mine from AutoZone for $10. Do a search on the subject, you will find a lot of discussion and possibly a picture.

You do need a special tool. They look like plastic collars that snap onto the end of the filter and slide into the end of the hose to release the spring holding the filter in place. The other type works the same way, but looks more like a pair of pliers that clamp onto the filter end and protrude into the end of the hose. Either will work, but get a set that will fit several sizes.
That little plastic one does work , but I like this aluminum one - gives yuh a little more leverage. With the tool engaged, pull line towards the filter then away from it forcefully, for it to release the spring connector.
Good Luck.
