Engine flushing
Engine flushing
I have a 94 F-150 w/ 4.9 w/ air... engine boiled over and I flushed w/prestone super flush & followed directions... well, engine ran real hot yesterday so I flushed again today... unfortunately I can't find the engine plugs on the engine, so after I drain I unhook lower hose and drain out at least a half gallon or so of crap. Both times I flushed, thick ugly brown stuff came out... Is unhooking lower radiator hose and flushing twice, w/prestone and running gallons of water through radiator good enough?
Does anyone know if and where engine plugs are avail. or placed on this engine.
This is my 4th Ford truck, all 4.9 6cyl, love these trucks, but I've never had to flush such a dirty, dirty engine...

Most models have a drain plug on the block near the Left front[ some v8 it is behind the starter]. If your getting that much crud after two flushes id look for other things going on. If the system continues to be contaminated by foreign material You want to know why. It could be a hose deteriorating on the inside [though this is rare] or oil or trany fluid mixing with coolant. Check all hoses and fluids for any mixing or level changes. Replace water pump if its questionable.
Just finished the 2nd flush and the water looks a whole lot cleaner than the
1st time... I'm figuring I just did'nt flush it well the 1st time, I'll run it this afternoon after I fill up w/ coolant and let you know if it runs hot... thanks
