2006 F150 with 5.4L, this thing is WEAK

I just bought a 2006 F150 FX4.

This truck has the 5.4L. The salesman bragged about the power I took it for a spin I was not impressed, actually I was disapointed. I can honestly say, my 98 F150 with the 5.4L felt faster. Maybe because the FX4 weighs so much, but sheesh, it's SLOW.

My friend has an 05 Ram with the hemi, now that thing moves. His Dodge would destoy my F150 anyday.

That being said, I love the truck, the other qualities of the truck made it worth it to me. The engine, is another story ford should either make more power on the 5.4L or offer another engine option pushing close to 400hp in the F150, it's pretty weak little engine this FX4 has..............

I woudl be embarassed using this FX4 for hard-core offroading or challenging any hemi trucks to races, lol

Maybe i'm kinda slighted though, i did just sell my 450hp camaro the past week

Hi.

A big part of the problem is the powertrain programming, shift programming & drive-by-wire programming. All of these factory 'compromises' result in what feels like an underpowered truck. Yes, weight is also a factor, as is the gearing...

There is a fix: a Troyer-tuned Xcal2 - he takes care of ALL those compromises and adds significant power and part-throttle torque as well.

Search the 'Chips' forum - lots of happy folks putting the smack-down on Hemi's ...

Cheers
Grog

I have read in a couple mags that the weight increased on all the new trucks so the power did kind of go unnoticed. As far as beating Hemi's I don't think that was Ford's intention. I really wish they would make a comparable engine, and make a truck to compete with the SRT10 again

um . . . these are trucks aren't they? I want mine to haul and tow. That being said, the XCal II makes a major improvement in the truck; even on the 87 octane tunes. And it is worthwhile in everyday driving; hauling, and towing. Well worth it. The transmission shift improvements and the ETC improvements alone are worth the cost.

Definitly get a tuner, It makes a big difference. These engines should put out better numbers then they do.

x4 on the tuner. I thought the same thing too about my 06 Screw 5.4L. I installed the Edge Evolution tuner last week and the difference is definetely noticable. Before just to pass a car on a 2 lane road was a wide open throttle adventure, now I don't have to nearly get on the gas that hard. It gave it a little more power but you can definetely feel the difference in tranny shifting and throttle response, plus the Edge lets you monitor tranny temp, engine temp, mpg etc.... Whether it be the XCal or the Edge, best money spent on the truck so far.

I'm just curious, what is the big obsession with racing anyway? In these trucks, I mean. I guess I'm just old.

I'm not drag racing anything. If I want to go fast I have a Yamaha R6 that has 140hp and weighs 350lbs, thats for pure speed......
And just for kicks although this means nothing, my truck weighs 5550lbs, and for it to go as fast as my bike it would need approximately 2220hp, maybe I'm just used to going fast and not used to "normal" vehicles, I don't know...............

I'm just saying, these trucks are UNDERPOWERED for their size. These things need more power. And not just because it's a truck, like I said previously I drove my friends hemi ram and was satisified with it's performance. It had some low end snap to it and pulled much stronger to the redline. Dodge does have one thing for them, their engines!

I didn't get this truck to race, if I did, I would get a mustang cobra or a lightning. Bottom line is, when you buy the top of the line 5.4L in the truck from Ford, when I push the pedal to the floor, I expect the truck to atleast get out of it's own way.

Am I the only one that feels this way?? Again, I LOVE the truck, I just feel that Ford needs to put a higher HP motor as an option atleast. 5.4L is also small displacement, 5.7L or 5.9L would be nice with some higher compression. I'd use premium gas for the extra ponies!

My truck has a 41K MSRP, for a 41000 truck I expect more then a ***** 300hp! I also have 20" wheels, and the FX4 offroad suspension and different rear axle gearing. I would say that my F150 is probably one of the slowest 5.4L due to the wheel diameter and weight......

I'll look into the computer reprogrammers to, but still, all I wanted to say is that people brag about the 5.4L, but I personally am disappointed with it and for the weight of these trucks a measly 300hp is inadequate. It's almost a joke!

Why buy a truck you're just gonna whine about? I assume you test drove it before buying????

If you wanted a Hemi, you should have bought a Dodge. No use in crying about it now.

I bought the Ford because

1) better frame
2) better interior styling
3) better drivetrain components
4) better suspension
5) exterior styling was better to me

Only thing it lost in was ENGINE. I took 5/6 for the Ford, but I am just saying, Ford needs to wake up and put a real motor in there. I am planning on installing a supercharger anyway, but it's ridiculous I need FORCED INDUCTION to go down the road and keep up with a civic.............

And yes I test drove my truck, I knew it was a PIG before I paid for it. I told the salesman to stop saying it's powerful, lol. It was getting irritating..........

Anyway, I'm done bitchin, I have a party to attend and I'm bringing the beer, YEEEEEHAAA!!

I'll tell you one thing, this truck has best in class keg hauling capacity,

You got it right brother YEEEHAAWW! You wont find a better truck than a FORD. It's got the keg hualing capacity. Nah i know where your comin from they should find a way to put a little bit more ponies in there and boy they would crash into $$$$. I like the 5.4 got a lot of giddy up on mine but ive rode in others and it's not as good.(espescially the newer ones)
What im sayin is FORD would outdo Dodge Chevy and all the other Homo's if they got a little more power under the hood. They have best all around truck but dodge does have them beat with the engine but they fall to pieces.
ITS ALL GOOD THOUGH FORD ALL THE WAY!
