2006 F150 with 5.4L, this thing is WEAK

I'll look into the computer reprogrammers to, but still, all I wanted to say is that people brag about the 5.4L, but I personally am disappointed with it and for the weight of these trucks a measly 300hp is inadequate. It's almost a joke!
Just an FYI, but you are incorrect w.r.t the wheel diameter:
From the tire mfg's sites ...
Pirelli 275/55R20: 31.9" diameter (optional on FX4)
Conti 275/65R18: 32.1" diameter (standard on FX4)
So for equal gearing, you are not going to be affected negatively with the 20" wheel tire combo. What gears do you have, by the way?
Please do look into the tuner (the one I recommended) - and check out the Chips forum. Remember, the Titan has 305 HP, the Dooge 325 ( @ flywheel) ... weight & gearing... after proper tuning the 5.4L 3V will exceed that in addition to much better shifting to get that power to the ground...
And BTW - according to Motorcyclist, an R6 has 109.6 HP at the rear wheel - a slip-on is not gonna add 30 HP. engine mods? Nice bike though.
Cheers

Maybe something is not right with the motor/trans??? You should be able to blast away from a red light when it turns green. Go WOT and you should see them in your rear veiw mirror. If GrandMa is pulling you from a red light in her Buick and your at WOT then something is wrong with that picture.
I'd go down to the dealer again and test drive a few more F150's and see if they are all like that. You just spent 41K so they better make sure your happy with that truck.
I just moved up to a used 02 Screw with the 5.4 and compared to my 89 F150 5.0 5 speed the 02 is a rocket.

The Hurricane is a forthcoming large-displacement V8 engine project at Ford Motor Company. The engine project was reportedly cancelled in 2005 as the company focused on its existing Triton V8 and V10, but was reportedly[1] revived in early 2006 by Mark Fields. The large engine will compete with DaimlerChrysler's new Hemi and General Motors' large Vortec engines. Ford is currently unable to compete with these large V8 engines in the pickup truck, SUV, and luxury car markets with its 5.4 L Modular V8.The Hurricane engine will reportedly displace 6.2 L, with the ability to exceed 7.0 L in future applications, and produce more than 425 hp (317 kW) and 425 ft·lbf (576 N·m). It will be built at Cleveland Engine in Cleveland, Ohio. The first application will be Ford's F-Series pickup trucks produced at Dearborn Truck. It has been rumored that the Hurricane will retain many of the Modular V8 design cues such as a deep skirt block with cross bolted main caps, oiling system design, and multivalve overhead camshaft valve train arrangement but it will have much wider bore spacing and bearing surfaces.
I assumed the 20" wheel was larger diameter overall then standard, guess I'm wrong. The tire profile of the smaller wheel makes up for it I see. And I was just mentioning the FX4 because I assume it's heavier with the skid plates and other options, and offroad gearing can't help in the acceleration department.
And yeah, my bike, I'm talking flywheel HP just like the trucks are rated flywheel, manufacturer doesn't give you rearwheel hp ratings. I never dynoed my bike.
But I love this truck overall! Don't get me wrong. With the 20's and loaded interior, it's a PIMP ride
When I sit inside with the leather captains chairs, I think to myself if I'm in a pickup or an ESCALADE
They seem to be giving deals on these bad boys to, I got this 41k MSRP truck for 32k. Traded in my old truck for 6k, put down 5k, all in all my monthly payment is about $400 a month! Gotta love it.........

to me it si not about racing , but more about how comaprible is it in the market place. it is all realtive.
my bros. 4 door hemi will run a 15.2 @ 89, in 1986 my mustang gt went 14.9 @ 92, in 1986 this was a very fast car and other than the grand national, i never lost to a newer car.
when nissan offers a underated 5.6, 305 more like 350 hp, dodge offers a 345 hp, chevy has an availabel 367 hp 6.0, why is it wrong to complain that ford has the heaviest 1/2 ton with the weakest engine? not only that but they all get about the same mpg, there again, buy the other 3 get more power and the same mpg, and i got news the dodge pulls a load just fine. we pulled our 21 ft travel trailer and the dodge pulled it better than my 5.4 and got 8.5 mpg compared to the 6.5 to 7 my truck gets.
i love the looks of the new f150, ford need to get with the program and stay competive, offer a larger v-8 and a small diesel and stay #1.

That's a good pointg. I drove a new F-150 before i bought my 02 (money issues, trying to lower my payment) and the new one drove much nicer than the new Chevy or Dodge at the time, but it's all those noise dampening, extra insulation, nicer finishes, etc that pack on the pounds for this truck. If they kicked it up to about 375-400 horse, it would be worlds better. They have the technology, it can be done. GM is doing it with a push-rod engine (still) so you don't need fancy ohc's... Just give it more guts

For gearing, you've got 2 choices from the factory (excluding the heavy-duty payload package which includes a 4.10 but butt-ugly wheels): 3.55 and 3.73 LS or non-LS.
Not sure what you mean by "off-road" gearing, but for sure all else being equal, a higher numerical ratio will most certainly net you better acceleration - there is more torque multiplication, plain & simple.
I'm not aware of any other ratio changes in the tranny in the 4R75E/W across the different models. Anyone?
The other thing I'm thinking, if your truck appears abnormally slow, your specific PCM calibration is one of those with issues (running lean, not going open loop, whatever, etc..). Mike Troyer can answer that one - you may want to to call him. A dealer reflash may help, but a custom tune is the only real fix for that. If,as you say, you are gonna put an S/C in it anyway, you'll need tuning as well, so might as well get the flash device now
Regardless - hope you continue to enjoy that truck
Cheers

PS: Bikes: Motorcyclist dynos all their test bikes - you mean you have 30+HP driveline loss with a chain drive? Seems kinda high to me ... you sure about that flywheel number?

I just bought a 250 with the 5.4L since i was more worried about gas milage than performance but i will definitely get a tuner for it. The 250 (which is probably a bit heavier than your 150) is pretty peppy from a dead stop but punching it from about 10 mph you can barely feel it accelerate which is purely in the electronic throttle control and trans programming.
I have driven the Hemi Rams we use them for plow trucks at work, they are pretty powerful but we had to send them back many times for warrenty work. When the electronic throttle control goes into limp mode your no goin anywhere fast!
Never trust a salesman! When i bought the f250 I traded in my 500HP 03 mustang that would pull the wheels off the ground. He saw me checking out the new body style stangs and tried to show me a v6, when i told him i would have to get a v8 he said "but the new v6 makes 230hp you dont need a v8"!

ford sponsored event correct.
i like how the writer had not 1 bad thing to say about the ford, not one.
dude it is a written commercial. i would give it alot more credit if it basically didnt rag on the other brands and kiss fords a$$.
no vehicle is that good.

That being said. The only engine mods I will ever do are an exhaust kit some day just to give the dog a bit more bark. it already has plenty of bite.
I have a 2004 F150 with a 3 valve 5.4. I have to agree that it is a dog in the power department but I love the truck in all other respects. I've been thinking of a chip, exhaust and induction, too bad you have to mod a $35,000 truck to make it perform. I will say that if I keep it at 60 mph I can get 20 MPG, can a Hemi do that?
