does this work????
does this work????
on ebay they sell this little resistor that is a snap to install. it tricks the computer into thinking the air temp is cooler than it really is? they say up to 20 ponys more? at only 3 bucks i say why not . has anyone seen this and has anyone used it or something like this . pros and cons on what you all think of this would be great thanks
I've heard they work - the sensor is just reading a resistance that changes based on temperature anyway - but you can buy a resistor at an electronics store for pennies instead of wasting 3 dollars.
If it looks like a scam and smells like a scam......
Think about it. If it really was that simple, wouldn't all the OEMs design it into their systems??? Naaah.... it's just a conspiracy to limit power industry-wide....
Complete and total waste of money.

I wouldn't be surprised if it worked. But think about what it's doing. If it is making the computer think the engine is cold, it will run richer. Meaning lower gas mileage and probably a carbon buildup causing problems down the road. Possibly even causing the catalytic converters to block up.
i dont know guys their are allot of people that have gotten this little mod and they say they felt a big difference in power and one guy i talked to said his gas mileage has gotten beter. im going to install it it cant hurt . all i no is that all the people i know and talked to who have it love it . ill try it it cant be bad if 9 out of 10 love it ????? it beats spending $500 on a chip that does the same thing.

You get what you pay for, running rich shortens the life span of your cats. By how much...that is the question. May not be much...
Some people claim they "feel" a huge difference with a new muffler...tornado intake thing...the seat o' the pants dyno isn't very accurate.
Running richer will not in any way increase your MPG. Think about it...you are making the mix richer by adding more fuel.
it does not make the truck run richer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!damm, it makes the computer think its getting cooler air into the intake

And cooler air is more dense.
And what does the ECU do when the air is more dense/cooler?
It adds more fuel.
1+1=2
I don't know what you are missing from this equation.
Not telling you to do it or not. It's your truck. Have at it.
edit: forgot to add !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the pcm thinks the air is cooler, which is denser, denser air has more air so the pcm feeds more fuel in to the engine to maintain the 14:1 ratio. since the air isn't really cooler then you engine will run rich, reducing power, fuel economy and causing other problems. an engine need to maintain a 14:1 air fuel ratio. put it on the dyno to see the effects of your miracle chip.
damm dont mean to be rude but c-mon i just asked a question dont jump all over me . im just telling you all what i heared. i dont know rich from poor . thats why i asked the ? on hear . i guess this was the wrong site to go to ask a ? about a modification i saw on a site. my mistake mike
He's not being rude, hes trying to tell you how the device works (which is usually a good idea, knowing how something works before you install it on your 20k truck).
Here's a thought...if it ACTUALLY worked, do you think they would sell it for ONLY $3.00 ??? Thats why the price is so low...the chance of it actually working is low/none, but people are willing to spend $3.00 (look at yourself here), to give it a try, and if it doesnt work, who cares, toss it in the trash.

Don't waste your money. Yeah, sure, some people think it helps, andyeah, it *may* trick the engine into generating a bit more power, but at what cost?
Tuners do not work the same way at all. Tuners maintain the proper air/fuel ratios, unlike these 'wonder-chips'.
No need to get defensive. A quick search on these boards would have turned up at least a hundred posts confirming the fact that these types of 'chips' do bupkus for your engine.
