It could be a spark plug. Check for any codes and report back.

If the check engine light is on, then there ARE codes that can be pulled. Any major auto parts store will do this for free usually.

I had that problem when I changed my spark plugs. It turned out to be a plug wire.

A misfire on one cylinder the engine light flashes.
Happened to me when I got a coil pack wet. Soon as I said it was flashing the guys here knew what it was.

It might stay on for a weak spark, IDK.

Where is Lee and/or Bluegrass they'd know. I need them in my thread too....

Yep it's got 8 coil packs, one on each cylinder. It was the #6 cyl.

Actually, if you go to the auto store, coil to plug is just the spark plug boot. Which is your spark plug wire.
The coil is called "Ignition coil".

Coil to Plug

And the coil is called.......

Ignition Coil

Notice no boot or "Coil to Plug" on the Ignition coil.
It is often refered to as the coil pack on here.

Yours is also just an Ignition coil but you have spark plug wires instead of Coil to plug....

Similar Q but no check engine light on

OK, I have a 2000 f150 5.4 4x4 auto. It has started missing really bad on acceleration. Seems to idle and cruise OK. Check Engine Light is not on. Can a code reader still tell me what is wrong?

Sounds like plug wires are the place to start but I had them replaced about 15k miles ago. Truck now has about 98k miles total.

Thanks for suggestions on this one.

Truck had been running fine up to this point.

When was the fuel filter last changed?

Sounds like when mine plugged up, mine one day all of a sudden had rough starts, sometimes die, and rough idle, but would accelerate fine in low rpms. At about 3K rpm it started missing and with in a day or two that started dropping to lower rpm's before I got it changed.
