fuel problem i think
fuel problem i think
I have a problem. I have a 2000 expedition and it runs absolutely great until the fuel gets down to the last quarter tank. then it just starts to feel likes its about tho stall @ every light or stop sign. If i try to hit the gas hard when im gonna take off it really stalls and almost just turns off. Mind you this only happends when its @ around a quarter of a tank if i have more than that in the tank it runs perfect. Started to happen about a month ago. I already changed the fuel filter and the pcv valve. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
ill check it out but ill have to wait until it gets to that level. So what will i have to fix if the fuel pressure does get lower @ that level. Just trying to be ready for what ill have to get fix. I just wanted to know if it was a big problem. Its really annoying when it gets down to that level.
A vacuum leak could also cause concern. Check all of the elbows that connect the pcv valve all the way to the engine. The one in the back behind the throttle body is suspect to be leaking. If this is the case, it may just be coincidence about the fuel level. If you can give more info, I can be of more help.

well the only other info i can give is that i had the fuel pump changed around the same time that this started to happen (with in like four days). I dont think its a coincedens cause it only happens when it gets to that level any other time it runs like a champ no problem at all.

Drop the fuel tank and drain it...clean it out...allow it to dry...reinstall...I had the same thing happen to me in my old Nova about 2yrs ago and it was just water in the fuel tank...internal combustion engines and water don't get along real well you know...
Good luck..._motes

I think its the cause.

The pickup as well as the sender are usually attatched to the pump in a single assembly. When you fill up the tank does it stay full longer than usual then drop normally with use. IE when it is showing 1/4 tank it is closer to empty. How many miles you have driven on a tank may be a better indication of whether the sender is operating properly. Further the pump/sock assmebly (filter on end of pump) if seperate from the fuel sender; is the pump all the way down at the bottom to pickup the last 1/4 tank of fuel.

Fuel Delivery
It sounds like a delivery problem. I cannot believe you have a 1/4 tank of water. Who installed the pump? I would drop the tank if it was my vehicle...I'm just too damn curious.
Especially since it is only your time and labor involved. How big is the tank 1/4 of 30 will still weigh 55lbs plus tank weight. Has the MIL/Check engine light come on?

Moemo,
Two staps holding my tank in. You need a floor jack or better a trans jack. Floor jack with ply wood will door. You need to be able to siphon fuel if weight will be to much. A buddy is always handy to stabilize tank as it is lowered. You may need to lower tank a little to gain access to connections on top of tank. Electrical connectors and fuel line connectors. Do you have fuel line "disconnector" tool? How about a Haynes type manual as it will not gloss over details as I have. Maybe lifting the bed off the truck is the easist way if you have 4-5 freinds who like
.

Guess you can't lift the bed off an Expedition
