battery light

Ok so I just came back from a nice little mud riding adventure. I was do just fine yeehawing and everything. Well when we turned around at the dead end. I notice my battery light came on. The voltage meter looked fine right in middle like it suppose to. So I said to myself oh well and kept going. Well when I would go through some holes it would go up alittle over chargering I guess. But everything seemed fine and went back to normal after a few mintues. Then I went to the washing station to wash my truck off and sparyed the engine alittle and hoped that it was just a clogged up alternator. I got back in and cranked up and the light was still on. But on the way it dropped alittle maybe down to 12ish volts. So.... what do you think it is clogged or messed up alternator or wiring got shortered? Thanks

I think that if the alternator stopped working, your batt. light will come on even though the batt. still has normal voltage. I had this happen on a '95 150. Battery volts were good but the light was on, checked with a voltage meter, and sure enough, the alternator wasn't charging the batt. If you drive a little more I'd bet that your voltage will drop pretty quick.

You know I got to thinking the same thing about the dead alternator. Good thing I bought a warranty when I bought the truck now I just have to give a good washing under the hood and take it in!
