new to the 5.4L...

new to the 5.4L...

Okay so I am getting an 01 SC 4x4 wit h5.4L and 80k on it. Iam told ot watch for piston slap and to change the plugs often casue they can blow out?

Anyone else elaberate on these issues? How comman are they? no tsb?

Only change them as required, not often.
And make sure they are replaced correctly.

Have the front suspension components checked (ball joints, etc.)

I'd swap all fluids and then just enjoy the truck.

It is lifted, but its on a 6" Fabtech lift which I am told is a good IFS kit.

Also do Ij ust use regular oil? I usually just use Castrol GTX in my Jeep. I think at 80k its alittle late to switch to syn. oil.

Yeah, it's a little late in it's life to switch to synthetic now. I'd stick with regular oil.
My 5.4 has the piston slap in the morning. Been that way for 130,000 miles. No problem yet.
Like the others said, change the plugs when necessary, check the front end, brakes, and drive it.

Bs I switched my 4.6L equipped thunderbird over to synthetic somewhere around 80k with no problems. I also was also burning oil and after the switch to mobil 1 and synthetic lucas i don't burn anymore oil at all

What kind of oil was the truck using before? Try to stick to the same thing if you can find out what they were using.

I dont know what they used in my truck before I bought it with 96k, so I just use Motorcraft 5w20 (which is a blend).
