I have both.

I have a 05 Supercrew with the 5.4;

and a 1972 F250 with a transplanted 460 w/C-6 tranny.

The engine is stock except for an Edlebrock Carb, and duals out the back.

The tranny is hooked to a B&M shifter.

The F250 is lighter than the F150.

A 0-60 run in the F250 is hard to do as it lights up the tires. Even with playing with the throttle and spinning the tires, it's faster than the F150.

Hook up 9000 lbs, and the F150 can't even come close.

The horse power is not the issue with the 460 in stock trim, it's the torque!

It has alot!

But it gets about 10mpg regardless of loaded, uphill, downhill, towing, it just doesn't matter.

If I had a huge bank account, I would take the 460 out of the 72 and transplant it into the 05. It's an awesome motor. I would love to be able to drop in a 400hp crate motor. But it's fun just the way it is. I just need more time to work on it.

But then why go with a 460 if a 4.6 is lighter and can be made to have more power

they didnt make the 460 in 1997, 1996 was the last year of production

Now that we have all agreed on what engine to use...... I would recommend http://car-part.com/ Do a search on a 1990 F-250. It will list 460s from 88 to 97. Yes they still used the 460 in Motor homes. The newer ones will have Fuel injection. Using Fuel injection will help with fuel economy and emissions. The 460 is longer than the 5.4/4.6 but I think the modulars are wider and taller so the engine will fit. Lose the engine mounted fan and go electric. Oh, take lots of pictures.

Nope... The 460 was put in the 1997 F250/350 Heavy Duty trucks. That was also the last year for the 'old' bodystyle for the big boy. Then they came out with the 1999 SuperDuty and you could only get the 7.3, 6.8 or the 5.4.

I've got a Chiltons manual that covers it.

Thats far from suped up. Thats a 1969 Lincoln Continental, bone stock. And it will run just fine on pump premium.
