Floor jack recommendation

Can anybody suggest a floor jack, preferably a set including some jackstands? Where did you get it and how much was it? I need something with enough clearance to get a 2000 4x4 Lariat up in the air. Thanks.

Don't know if there's a store in your area, but Harbor Freight has relatively cheap floor jacks & jack stands. Just go to www.harborfreight.com and search "floor jack" under a keyword search. Harbor Freight's stuff isn't the best quality, but I've been using one of their floor jacks and a pair of jack stands for about 8 years with no problems. Take care,

Sam's Club sells a Roush floor jack for about $75 that is hard to beat. Then pick up stands anywhere. I bought some SnapOn stands just because I got a good deal on them and they are top quality.

I bought mine from Sears a few years ago. It is a 3ton with jacks. If I remember correctly at that time it was about $100.

I'm not trying to start something here, but if SnapOn's jack stands are as crappy as their sockets, then I'm not getting under your car.....

We have a harbor freight in my area and everything so far we have bought from there seems to hold up good. I agree, not the best quality but when the tool you need is just a piece of steel or something like that, or something you need for one time use, you can't beat them.

My brother has a big-a$$ Sears hydraulic floorjack a little over a year old and the fluid keeps running out of the bottom of it; worthless.

Take it back, they should replace it.

Wink Snapon Issues?

Wow, you had a problem with Snapon sockets? I always loved them...the rounded edges always grabbed crappy rusted bolts great for me. I'll will openly admit they are pricey, and the whole "snapon tool man" is a loss, but I never had a quality issue. Sorry to hear about it. What tools are you happy with? No sarcasm intended, I would honestly like to know what you feel is an improvement. I could use some new tools and would like some suggestions . Currently I own mostly craftsman tools...of which I'm not all that impressed.

Whatever you get, make sure it's good stuff. I got access to a lift, so I don't own actually own a floor jack beyond some el-cheapo deal I bought at AdvanceautopepO'ReillysBoysZone a long time ago. A cheap floor jack and/or stands can ruin your day in a hurry if you're under your truck for whatever reason and they decide not to work anymore.

Craftsman tools are the suckiest tools on the planet! If you want a busted knuckle, just grab a craftsman ratchet!!! I've had all kinds of tools, but the best ratchet I've seen is a Stanley. You can get them at Wal-mart. Their ratchet-wrenches are awsome cause they have a regular wrench shape and you can reverse them. These tools have a warranty, but you won't break a Stanley ratchet very easily....

My favorite sockets are the "Evercraft" brand from NAPA. They make the best impact sockets around IMHO, and they're cheap, and they have a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that! The only thing that is bad about them, is that the size is printed on the side of the socket instead of stamped into it, so it rubbs off over time.

The snap on sockets are soft, and they are supposedly "designed" to wear out to prolong the life of your air tools... But for the price you pay for a set, you could have bought a couple extra impact wrenches.

I think we have some jack stands but I never use them. I always use wood blocks. They're cheap, and they will NEVER fail you....

The nicest sockets I've ever owned are Sidchromes, it's owned by Stanleyworks so are probably the same - they've been known as Sidchrome in Australia and NZ for a long time, since just after the war.

Worth the extra money, although, having said that, cheap tools have never been as good as they are now.

I think buy good ones for every day, and if you're only going to use them occasionally, you can get away with cheapies for other jobs, or specialised ones....

Well, normal people don't break non-impact sockets with just a ratchet. So I agree that the crappy brands are usually fine. The best wrenches I've found are the brand from Wal-Mart. I can't remember if it's benchtop or what, but they're GREAT! And cheap! They're WAY better than craftsman! I don't know if they have a warranty or not, as I've never broken one! My favorite thing about them, is that the chrome doesn't peel off and stick into your hand.

I own all kinds of sockets, Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Craftsman, some off the wall no name ones, and they're all been good.
