All I know is mustang guys did this to older, like 1990 stangs, and I think it gave a little increase. like 1 hp , but made the engine sound different.

That's about it eh! I don't think it would hurt to rermove it though, like I said it was common amoung stang guys. Try it to see if the engine sounds different.

I might.... But I kinda like my truck being quiet. It's already a little bit noiser since I removed the cats... I don't want to make it any louder....

Why did you remove them?

All right now Norm.....

I removed them because one of them split, and was leaking exhaust fumes under the cab. I was going to get them replaced, but the dealership wanted $1100, so they told me to go to a muffler shop, and see if they could fix it. I took it to them, and when I got back, they said that they couldn't fix it, so they just chopped them off, and I said OK.

The truck will only be louder when you really get on it. I took the silencer off of my dad's truck with a stock intake (mine had CAI), and when you would pass someone at higher rpms there would be some whistling, but it all went away as soon as you took your foot off of it.
It will give a small power increase, and it's just less crap on your truck.

Fair enough Chester, it's not easy being green when they want to slug you like that....it's a pity they're allowed to charge like that for emission stuff that can make a big difference - that's one of the reasons I use a push mower, cause smaller engines with no pollution stuff are some of the worst offenders....I read somewhere they were able to improve air quality in LA when they found out that most lawn mowing was done on something like a tuesday, and the air was worst then, so they staggered it somehow...

It does look as if non-OEM cats can be had a lot cheaper, whether buying them on ebay is good or not I don't know, but they're there all right...

Thanks Blue.

it can be done but it would take at least 25 dyno runs at standard conditions, with the silencer and 25 without, plus it probably would only be significant at the 90% confidence level. most evaluations are done at the 95% confidence level.

this same logic applies to small HP and filter gains made by K&N filters and synthetic oil.

and if someone can prove they can feel a 3 -5 HP gain i will be the first to kiss their backside in public

Do you get a check engine light now that your cats are gone?
