Coolant temp sensor

Unhappy Coolant temp sensor

Please does any one know where the/ Coolant temp sensor / engine temp sensor/ located on a 4.6 liter Ford f150 1999 model

HI!... It should be screwed into the driver's side cylinder head towards the front of the engine under the intake manifold. Real PITA to get to to change. I've done it without removing the intake manifold, but most just remove it to make the job easier. It's actually a cylinder head temp sensor. It keeps track of the coolant temp in the heads since they get the hottest 1ST.

It's the one on the left.



You can see it installed in this pic. It's the sensor thats under the very 1st (#5 cylinder) intake port on the D/S cylinder head.

Thanks Neal

Thank you had found it recently but dealership says vehicle has three such sensors. I,m looking for the one that controls engine idle on cold start is this one specified it. Also do you know of any online sites that has service manuals for this vehicle.

HI!... My 5.4 only has one coolant temp sensor, not 3.............. dealerships

I know on my 98 F150 4.6L it is in the Intake manifold on the top at the fron pasenger end.
