Angry 1990 F-150 Engines Dies At Highway Speed

The day my F-150 (Engine V8 5.0L.) decide to die while driving home from work the truck acted like I turn off the key mid-flight no really bangs or ususal noise it just quit. After swearing a bit and walk the rest of the way home. I got a ride back out to tow it home. Tried it a few more times and just as we were about to pull it away one try and the truck fired up again. I had this happen before but is was the ignition module which I replaced and the truck wouldn't start. This also has a rough idle to the point of stalling when it sits for a while but once it warmed up its fine. Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to fix the issue. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First thing I'd do would be to check the battery cables, including the grounds. check for tightness at the terminal, tightness at the connection of the grounds, and any corrosion anywhere. A loose battery cable or bad ground can easily shut your truck off like that and that's a free & easy 10-minute check.

If there's nothing obvious there, I'd then pul the computer codes. Unlike newer models, anything 95 and older doesn't require anything more than a paperclip and a pen and paper to write down the codes. There's instructions available if you don't know how, a Haynes manual will tell you or do a search in the pre-97 forum, this topic has been posted previously there. Once you have the codes, come back here (probably to the pre-97 forum would be best) post what codes you got, and someone will decode it for you and give you a place to start. When you post here, make sure to include the engine size too.

Good luck!
