Fuel tank float

I got a float that is bad in one of my tanks on my 95 4.9L...front tank. I know the sending unit is good, just the float is full of gas.
The local truck salvage/parts guy says he won't sell one separate and "a sending unit'll run ya $75."
Not in my lifetime!!
Anyone got any other suggestions on finding just a float or anyone got of they can spare me??? Regular parts places or stealerships don't sell 'em separate either.
Thanks,
Allen

Sounds like it's only available as an assembly. You could 1: remove your current sending unit and fix the leak or 2: try to find someone with a bad sending unit. Is it even possible to replace the float on one and not destroy it?

I've already tried to fix it. It's real hard to get anything to plug a hole...I found out the hard way...

What's the float made of? Have you tried JB weld? If nothing else try filling it with great stuff or some other closed cell foam that is impervious to gasoline. JMT.

I'm not sure what it's made of but it looks like this. This is an auction I'm watching and may just buy...
My brother tried to solder it. Nothing we could find at the parts store would be impervious to gasoline.
So are you saying that this Great Stuff will not deteriorate in my gas tank? If that's the case then I may go get some if the auction doesn't pan out. And I'm assuming that stuff floats...

It uses that old copper float? I haven't seen one of those in years, except on an old motorcycle. Good luck, most of the time its assembly or nothing!
