Additional info on my A/C problem

1997 Taurus

I posted the other day about my problem- all controls on max, get slight cool air until you slightly back off on manual thermostat and it gets hot.

Today it went back to blowing very cold air. Then one time today it did not work but then went back to working.

I recently checked the door acutator motor and it seems to work fine as does the door.

Could the heater coil have anything to do with this. I did have problems over the winter and had to flush it out.

Like I said, there is no difference in the force of air from the vents when slightly backing off the thermostat to hot air.

What can I look for? Could it still be a leaking issue?

Thanks a bunch

If it was an F-150 then I'd say it's the blend door. See if you can find Quintin or another Ford Tech on here, they'll be able to help you.

Didn't think about the door. There's a TSB for the door warping and binding, sometimes restricting air flow in heat or cool. You'll need to replace the temperature blend door.

Bulletin from MotorAge

1996-2003 Taurus/Sable; 1998-2002 Continental
Erratic or failed interior temperature control may be caused by a bound or distorted Secondary Blend Door. ETAC codes B1249, 022, 024 or 025 also may be present. A replacement blend door is now available and can be installed without replacing the entire heater case, but the instrument panel must still be removed from the vehicle. The bulletin includes part numbers and instructions for installing the door.
Bulletin 02-23-6

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, now I know which way to go.

This door, is it easily to get to or will it require the dash to come out?

You'll need to pull the dash back.

It's easy with a sledgehammer.
