help with fuel problem please

heres my problem . 95 f150 5.0 dual tanks.when i go to start the truck in the morning you here the fuel pump kick on then shut off after a couple seconds but the truck wont start (no fuel) if you leave the key on for a few minutes you will hear the pumps come back for a few seconds then the truck will start. once in a while it will shut off while driving if you pull over and do the above procedure it eventually starts. does this sound like a fuel pump problem?please help its my only vehicle

there is a pump in each tank correct? so it wouldn't be likely to be both tank pumps go out at once..... it could be the tank switch also.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but '91 was the last year they put a high-pressure rail-mounted pump. All models after that year the high-pressure pump was part of the FDM (fuel delivery module) now common to all F-series.

As for the shutting down & not starting.... I'd change the fuel pump relay, as well as the ECM relay as I've gone through this once before, and it's so cheap to do it's worth doing it anyway. Relay contacts will get carbonned up and fail to operate at times.

To test, just bypass the relay and stick a jumper wire between the big power wire and the pump wire.

the truck had sat for two years ,one of the pumps the front is very noisy and seems to change tone alot.the back tank will be quiet one day and noisy as hell the next day. i dropped the back tank ,cause it was the easiest to get to,and the screen kit at the bottom seemed to be very dirty with a coating of something that felt like sand.
