Does any one know the differences in the 4.2L engines between '97 and '03. I am looking to swap engines in my '97 4.2L Automatic. Unfortunately I do not have the cash for a new one so I will have to use a "take out" and I am trying to figure out which ones will be compatible with the ECU in my '97. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

you can install a 02 but you need to put the 97 intake on and transfer all the compnets from the 97 4.2 engine the 02 would bolt right in so i would think the 03 would be no difference the 02 is built better than the 97 they are more built up i did the same thing i put in a 02 and no problems and i have 97 f150
