Need my EGR?

Do I really the the EGR? Doesnt it jsut blow hot air into my manifold? I live in florida, and there are no inspections here. Can I just disconnect it? what would happen?

Since you don't understand what it's for or how it works, don't mess with it, especially if it is not giving you problems.

if u are going to remove it then ur going to need a special tune to compensate for that... and EGR only comes in whenever cruise control is set.. and it actually increases ur fuel economy when EGR is used...

Blowing hot air could not be further from the truth.
It meters exhaust gas back into the intake to limit peak combustion temps.
Exhaust gas has almost no air or carbon content that will reburn and just dilutes the fresh air mix at cruise rpm. It is active no other time.
Have a custom tuner set up to turn it off. No codes no other effects but being illegal according to law.
You won't see any benifits on the street since it almost will never open until light load and rpm conditions are within certain limits.
When the PCM does call up the routine, the fuel is cut back and the timing is advanced. This is where the benifit come in.

Bluegrass is correct with the addition to some vehicles the EGR is also used under load the help reduce/eliminate predetonation and not just for emissions

i mostly agree with the last 2 statments... myth.. it only works with cruise control.. that is false. it works at cruising rpms. it will open under constant port vaccum true it does reduce emissions and true a tune will make the truck run with out it. u will actuallt lose fuel economy a little. We just went over this in depth in tech school. (even tho i knew alot about it anyways haha) one would think exhaust gas will make your engine run even hotter... thats false it actually cools down compustion temps greatly... i will scan the info in the book if u dont believe me. with out it hooked up can lead to costly mistakes. im not saying ur engine will over heat instantly im saying the long term effect whether its 3k miles or 100k will tear ur engine apart. they are designed to run at a desired temp and this will greatly increase it. leave it alone u are gaining emissions from it and it is one of the emissions that u actually gain mpg from!
