4.6 pinging finally fixed

Thought i would share what i found. Started out looking for what was causing a rattleling sound when I would just crack the throttle figured out it was a bad intake manifold control circuit. While I had the intake off to replace it I changed out the knock sensor. No more pinging no more ratteling and I am running 87 octane. This is the best my truck has ran in years and mpg is also up a bit. Truck has 110,000 miles.

How much did that cost you and was it difficult to do?

I looked for receipts cannot find so prices are approx. IMCC $65, knock sensor $68 also replaced noise cover on lower intake and some gaskets, about $235 total and about 8hrs of my time. Not that difficult just took my time.Dealer wanted $600 labor plus parts. Also I took the old knock sensor and cross sectioned it on a bandsaw completely filled with rust. There is a disk type contact inside that could no longer move. As for IMCC it was just wore out. I tried many of the fixes posted for pinging but no luck. Truck is still running great very happy with results.
