Gas line quick disconnect????

I'm trying to take down my side tank on the f150 to gain access to the fuel pump. I've got one of those chrome tools that is suppose to disconnect the two lines going to it. after laying under the truck for about 30 mins today I found out that the name quick disconnect is very misleading. What am I doing wrong? I insert the tool and push the connection forward and then back. That baby aint commin off!

I was told the bed could easily come off to provide access. I notice There are 4 nuts that hold it on. Would this be an easy route. Can two people handle the weight of the bed to lift it and install back?

Thanks Brian

Push the fuel line and filter towards each other first, then insert the tool and push it into place, THEN try to seperate the two.

They can be a bugger to get off.

Push the fittings together, spray them out with brake clean or compressed air, then insert the tool. I've lifted the boxes up on the early to mid 90's trucks to do the rear fuel pump. It was easier due to the spare tire being in the way, but then the trucks were newer and the bolts were not rusted.

You can also buy a small round plastic disconnect tool. I got more than one with the set I bought and I think I used the 5/16 disc and slid it in on the line to get filter off. I also used the sissors tool on one end.
