Well, I AM glad to hear that this problem isn't just with my truck..and certainly happy to know that it won't affect longevity! On the other hand, that noise bothers me so much that I'm considering spending the money to have it fixed! Although...if the truck has no actual lifters...what would the mechanic replace to solve the problem? Not only that, if he replaces the factory parts with more factory parts, will this problem come up again theoretically? His suggestion to me was to drive it till it needs a new motor and then it'll all be fixed in one 'fell swoop'! I'm not sure I like that option either though...I get bored having one vehicle too long!

Same problem here

I think my truck is doing the exact same thing. You mentioned if you pull into the convenience store, hop back in your truck and crank it up, you get the noise. What happens when you cold start it in the morning? Mine will not make the noise on a cold start like in the morning. It always happens when the motor has been warmed up and then shut off. The noise goes away in about 30 to 45 seconds. I have searched the forums and can not find the solution. There are alot of ideas out there, but nobody seems to be able to say I had that problem and this is what I did to fix it. If you find the solution, let me know. Even though I dont think there is a major problem, it sure is annoying. By the way, I have 198,000 miles but my engine is clean. I use Mobil 5W-30 synthetic.
