So if I get another fuel pump relay and replace it then I should be ok? all the wires are in the same place on each plug. only difference is that the new relay I put in have 5 terminals instead of just 4 (like the old one)

The engine will start and runs fine, it just acts like the engine runs out of gas when I accelerate. I thought that maybe the pump in the tank was not working right.

Here

Choose the one with the same plug pattern.

Have you replaced your fuel filter?

replaced fuel filter, fuel pumps (all 3), fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, throttle position sensor, idle air bypass valve, egr system, plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor and even put in a new distributor, Hell I even replaced the engine last summer and still have the same problem

You think that a new coil might fix the problem? I was always under the impression that if the coil was bad it just wouldn't work at all.

One other thing, after I replaced the egr system and got it working like it should the engine ran worse. I unpluged all the egr stuff and it runs better but not like it should.

A coil that can supply spark to the spark plugs at idle may not supply it at higher RPMS. The spark plugs fire more often and it puts a greater load on the coil at the higher rpms.

A common problem with ignition coils is they lose the ability to supply power at higher rpms. I see at least 3 Mustangs a year with the driver complaint that it falls on it's face when they try and gun it, like it's running out of gas. It idles fine, but get it up around 3000 or more rpms, and it just cuts out.

I don't like throwing parts at a problem trying to fix it, but if you can borrow a coil that you know works from someone, you could try it and see if that solves your problem.

I have throwed parts at this for 2 years trying to get the thing fixed. a new coil will be next. I don't know anyone that would have a coil laying around that would work.

Thanks for all your help. If the coil doesn't fix the problem then I know where to come and try to find other ideas.

Have a great Sunday....

Is there an ECHO in here?

The term we are referring to here is the coils RPM limit which decreases over the life of the coil

85,86 trucks have 2 fuel pumps.
The low pressure pump in the tank and the hi pressure pump on the frame rail.
The Bronco II/ Rangers are the same.
The control circuits are different than an in-tank hi pressure system.
