The challenge with my project is that the SVO heads go new for $ 1,800 a pair ,bare......... Sooo, options are of great interest!
Well you could just have your NPI heads ported. Believe it or not maxed out porting a NPI head will out flow a maxed out ported PI head. its only by a couple cfm around 10 if i remember correctly. I've seen the flow bench sheets to prove it. There is one machine shop that everybody raves about on my thunderbird forums. Renegade Racing. They seem to specialize in the npi heads. If you are interested in aftermarket cams the most agressive cam an npi head can accept is a stock PI cam. Believe me i've got PI Cams in my 96 tbird with npi heads. In order to accept more agressive cams a little machine work needs to be done and Renegade can do it. SVO heads are not worth what they charge for them. I'm pretty sure i've seen that they can't accept very agressive cams either.

Here is the contact info for renegade
Jim at Renegade Racing. fastford@peoplepc.com

Ok here's what I've found out. I was Mostly Correct. All car 4.6L's are Romeos after the 2001 model and up. Truck 4.6L's are mostly built built by the romeo plant but it seems that the windosr plant produces a small quantity of them I'm guessing in a backup capacity when the Romeo plant can't keep up.

Per a search on the internet, this is what I found:

"Check the VIN. The 8th digit will be W or 9 for the Romeo engine, 6 for the Windsor.

Check the engine build code label on the right-hand cam cover. Out of Romeo, it'll be 6G 804 AA or AB, 6G 808 AA or AB (with oil cooler) or 6G 866 AA or AB (natural gas). Out of Windsor, it'll be 6G 926 AA only.

Check the cam cover. The right-hand cover on the Romeo engine has 11 bolts. The right-hand cover on the Windsor engine has 14 bolts. "

you have a windsor, back then all truck 4.6l's were windsors

8th character of the vin

w = Romeo 4.6L
6 = Windsor 4.6L
All 5.4L's are windsors
L = 5.4L
M = 5.4L natural gas
Z = 5.4L bi-fuel

az- I spoke to Ron at Fox Lake re: the Non pi heads. He suggested p&p non PI's with bigger valves, and PI cams. He says 40 hp+, and still emission proof ....
$ 1,900, ready to bolt on....no core chg, etc. Works for me.
Also, the compression will be a tad lower...... which is good.

did you email jim at renegade to see what he had to say. also see what they both have to say how much more agressive cams they can get them to take. i know renegade can get them to take any cam that a PI head can. seen as how you are running a blower VT makes some nice blower cams. You can find those at www.modulardepot.com

I did email Jim at renegade Sunday night, and didn't get a response.
The issue of emissions is a biggie......
I'll check out VT.

Well if Nevada is like Maryland, with a good tune you can make anything pass emissions. Anything 1996 or newer here they just plug into the diagnostic port. As long as its not throwing codes it will pass emissions
