Fuel Pump Question 98 Expedition

I have a 98 Expedition. I went out to start it this afternoon and it would start and die. It acts like it isn't pumping gas and I don't hear the fuel pump. Is there a braker switch somewhere for the fuel Pump? Thanks Riley

If it starts and dies, it is probably the IAC valve acting up. You should probably replace it or take it off and clean it real good.

or you could just open the throttle slightly, if it starts clean/replace the IAC. If it doesn't start put a fuel pressure guage on it to check for enough fuel pressure. Ten pounds low and they will not start, there is no way to tell if there is enough without a gauge onless there is none. There is an enetia(sp) switch but not likely in your case, but easy to check

Well I found out what the problem with my Expedition was. I had a key made that I could put in my billfold that didn't have a chip in it. I thought for sure I was going to have the truck towed in to get worked on then I started to think about it and I tried my normal key and it started right up no problem. The chip in the key must control the fuel pump. Thanks Riley

The chip in the key controls the anti theft system known as PATS (passive anti theft system) It disallows the the engine to start without the proper coding present.
