I need advice please.

First I have a 1994 f-150 4x4 ,5.8l.
When I accellerate slow and smooth I seem to feel a slight surge or jerky feeling. It almost feels like something in the fuel system.
Could a fuel filter cause this? Where do I begin?

Replacing the fuel filter might help.

What about the distributer cap, rotor, wires and plugs?

Another idea is to run by an auto zone and have them hook up to your computer and read any trouble codes that may be present.

If there are no trouble codes, i would change the plugs and check the cap/rotor for carbon tracks/trails or a burned rotor. then I would check the EGR valve (how? first locate it and start the truck and either watch or feel the valve open/close as you rev the motor.) If that is good, clean or replace the PCV valve and look for a vacum leak.

If there are a lot of miles, then i would suggest a SEAFOAM treatment then an oil change.
