truck wont start, O/D off light is on

i've got a 98 f150 that 2 weeks ago i let Ford change the alternator on, they also took it upon themselves to put a new speed control sensor or something like that cause it was a safety recall. after that it shifted kinda funny for a few days and then last nite, on my way home from work i hit a bump in the road and the check engine light flashed on and then my truck died and coasted to a stop. now it will crank but it wont catch and turn over and the O/D off light on the shifter is on and wont go off when i push it. ive checked all the relays and fuses and my fuel pump. anyone have any ideas?

The safety recall work is completely unrelated to your current issues.

Check your inertia safety switch. Sounds like it tripped when you hit that bump and shut off your fuel pump.

If that's not it, you''l have to back up to basic diagnostics: Air, Fuel, and spark to determine which subsystem is not working.

If its not the inertia switch or fuel pump fuse, etc, try to get a scanner hooked up and see if it didnt throw any codes.

i had my truck towed up to the ford dealership to have them look at it, turns out when they installed the new speed sensor, somehow their tech bumped my PCM and loosened it. they told me if it wont start again to "jiggle" the PCM till it starts. good ole ford technical service

that sounds plauseable...

turn the key to onposition but do not crank. and listen to hear if the fuel pump comes on. if it doesnt then the intertia switch was set off. if not check the PCM make sure it didnt come loose somehow...

The dealership was quite gentlemanly to accept the responsibility. However, it seems unlikely that they could have made any contact with the PCM while installing the cruise harness.
