I had to replace mine @ 60k. &*^%$ things are expensive.

I bought a NEW replacement with a lifetime warranty. So if it breaks, I get another NEW alternator and not a reman.

As to whether or not to carry a spare, I would be considering it. I would also have a backup Belt and possibly a extra idler. That way, when/if it does finally die, I would be ready to replace. Hopefully your battery will still have enough juice to re-start you truck. Of course, if you are prepared for an alternator issue, the Power steering will go out!!!!!

ITS A LAW (murphy's law)!!!

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

I always carry a spare belt, everytime I drop a new one on I save the old one Yep thinking it is time to get an alternator, probably change it now rather than be stuck on the side of the road doing it.

I had to replace the OEM Alternator at 75K. Bought one with a lifetime warranty (expensive). Replaced the next one at 210K. Didn't cost anything, still has lifetime warranty.

Just turned over 145,000 miles. The battery lamp is now lit, 12.4 volts at the battery when idling, going to get a new alternator and belt (still factory) today.
