If conventional oil has worked thus far, why switch? If it ain't broke...

I do agree with Quintin but, if you want to change, I changed over to synthetic at 70k miles and have had no problems because of it. It now has 113K.

If you've kept up with regularly scheduled oil changes, there's no need to "clean the engine." Synthetics offer extended drain intervals and greater resistance to breakdown from heat, those are probably the biggest advantages.

When I ran a full synthetic, I used Mobil 1.

Another vote for Mobile 1, running it for 65k with this truck and no issues.

If you are going to use the 5w20 (which I don't think is a bad idea) my vote is for the Motorcraft semi-synthetic. My understanding is that it is fairly highly regarded. Plus it is usually found at Wallyworld for half the cost of most full synthetics.

A steady diet of MC 5w20 and MC 820S filters has give me 104,000 trouble-free miles, and I honestly expect to double that at a minmum, barring unforseen accidents and such.

Another vote for Mobil1. I use 5W30 or 10W30, whichever one has the blue label. $20.17 for 5 quarts from Wally World.

5/20 is what you would consider a semi-synthetic. I carry it in bulk and its price even in bulk reflects it. I carried for a short time the full synthetic 5/20, but it showed relatively no difference for the price differential and I abandoned the line.

syn. oil

Got my 98 scab with 70,000 on it. put royal purple 5w30 and moto 820s filter in it. Did notice oil got very black very fast. must have cleaned out built up crude.Don't know what oil was used before. Changed oil again. Oil now stays clean long time.
