1 barrel to 2 barrel carb question
1 barrel to 2 barrel carb question
Have a question. I have the 4.9 liter slant 6. I looked at the carb for the first time this morning. It's a freekin 1 barrel?!?! I mean it would be nice to get a little more power then what i'm getting it's not bad but 2 barrels would definetly be nice. Is there a kit made to upgrade this thing or what do i have to do? I dont think i can just slap another one on there i might need a new intake manifold?
That would be a negative on the 302 to 300 deal. Are you looking for more performance? I would suggest starting with exhaust and air intake. I would also suggest to heave the heads ported and valves re-shaped. Unless your engine has the ability to use the increase in air and fuel delivery, you're not going to do anything but burn more gas. I slapped a 4 barrel in place of a 2 on a '79 Monte Carlo with a 267 V-8, and the only thing I felt was a lighter wallet. But I had the heads and exhaust done, and then the power was noticable.

You said slant six, so I was thinking Dodge...the 4.9 is a stright six, so I miss read the post, I suspect the aftermarket should offer something...
Offy used to make an intake for this motor. I had one on my 83 F150 4X4, and along with a cam, MAC headers, and a 390 spreadbore Holley, that motor really woke up. With the stock motor, she ran out of air and power at 3000. After the rebuild, she pulled strong to 5000+, and got better mileage, and was very driveable on the little primaries. When the secondaries were called upon, she had lots of power.
I'm not sure if you can still get Offy and Mac for this motor, but Clifford Research still makes them. The cam was a Crane.
