ok...my engine turns over but does not start....and when it DOES start...once i let go of the gas pedal, it turns off....does anyone have any ideas on what i can do or what i need to change out??

most likely your IAC

do a search on it.

very very common and happens without warning and does exactly what you are describing.

I would agree with hcmq the Idle Air Control Valve(IAC) is most likely the problem they are about $100.00 at advance auto. Seen this problem before put new one in solved everything. Hope this helps

 

what about the fuel filter??....my dad never had it changed...it is a 2001

 

TRy starting the truck and hold the gas pedal this time just a bit down and see if remains running . If it does then its the IAC. The fuel filter maybe bit not likely. I think its the IAC you can try tapping on it (IAC)sometimes they stick

 

take off ur iac and clean it with seafoam deep creep spray.. did the trick on mine... also i would change the filter its about 15 for the filter and 6 for the special took needed... i would also do a search and clean the maf too those get dirty..
