Loud Fan

I have a VERY LOUD fan. When i first start my truck up in the morning my fan is extremly loud. After letting it warm up i get on the highway and if i get about 3K Rpms then fan quietins down and the only thing you can here is my exaust. Once i stop for about 30 minutes or so with the motor off, it'll do the same thing when i start it up but after 3K it'll stop and i hear my exaust. Should i replace the fan because i would really like to get rid of the noise full time. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Sounds like your fan clutch has thrown in the towel. Put a new one on, and make sure it is a thermal unit, not centrifugal.

when the truck is not running and cool the fan should turn freely. if there is resistance to turning then the fan clutch is seizing up.

I was gonna wait till in the morning to check but i figured i would go ahead and yes there is a sufficient amount of resistence on the fan. I'll go and get the clutch changed out tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Before you go tearing it apart, you may want to read all three pages of this. Pay particular attention to page 2.

Which part are you referring to, the part about late model Ford diesel pickups?

I didn't see tha "diesel" reference. I saw the part about how it might spin fast when cold and take a short distance before normal operation.
My bad.
