k&n or e-bay knock off?
i'm assuming you're talking about the k&n FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kit)...I have the Volant CAI and I am going to take it off to get the K&N FIPK. Never got my truck on the dyno (2004 Lariat SCrew 4x4), but from what i understand, the K&N gives a couple more horses....or it feels that way from what i hear.

Actually the $20 one is quite nice….
It’s made out of cardboard and styrofoam….
For an extra 65¢ they spray paint it black for you….
On the box it clearly states; “Do not use while engine is on.”…
The only problem is that they sell them in packages of six….
So expect to spend $120 for the six pack…….
I’ve went through 18 of them this month alone….
Great deal! Great!……

Either way it's a tube of either aluminum or plastic. The extra U$200 gets you a genuine K&N filter vice a chinese knockoff. The clamps that come with the CCCFIPK (Cheap Chinese Copy FIPK) are junk and will break. Spend another U$15 for a good quality set.
The decent CCCFIPKs on Ebay run around U$80. Mine is on my truck for two years now with no problem. The blue CK&N filter is not that bad, I never found any dust/dirt in my intake tube. The K&N filter clean kit works very well with it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that kit on ebay. I had it on mine till I added the blower, and I still use the filter that came with it. All but overanalyzing this, they are all tubes, they all have basically the same angle (a 90` elbow on the pre 05 models) and they have a K&N style filter, thats made of the same type of stuff. I have used the knockoffs for years on multiple different applications and never once had a single issue. There are those that will tell you if you spend 30 grand on a truck, don't skimp on the add ons. Its not skimping when you buy the knock off. How do you think the rich stay rich?
This is the exact kit I was using

if the chinese nock something off its likely either going to be the exact same deisign or its going to be better... thats how them asians do it... steal our stuff make it cheaper or better for less.. ebay nock off is fine on thing that is really a concern is some filters are a non stainless mesh. my nock off cost me 55 with shipping. i got the red filter.. its 3 years old now still looks new. and i dont see the cost of spending so much more for a little gain u get... gotta weigh the cost u know

I have the AF1, and I know what I have. I may have paid a few bucks more, but like I said I know what I have. It’s true you can build your own cold air intake out of PVC, or cut the snorkel off the stock intake. But do you really know what your getting number wise A/F. Sure you can buy a Chinese nock off but.
Is it running too rich? or worse too lean?
Spend 35 to 40 thousand for truck … then cheapen it up and kill the motor by saving a few bucks

i would stay away
i bought a 40 ebay air intake and it sucked. when i got it there were no instructions but i got it all figured out and put on. i only had it on for like a month because it kicked on my check engine light saying my engine was running too rich and i had no low end power. and i know it wasnt leaking anywhere. so i would try to stay away from the cheap ones. i think my truck runs a lot better in hot weather with the stock intake anyways.
Tell you what. Someone with the AF1, Volant, and K&N take measurements of your pipe. Measure all the dimensions. Width of pipe, length to the bend, length from the bend to the filter. Figure out how far the vacuum line ports are from the bend and the filter. I'll measure the knock off and lets see what the real difference is, besides $200. WHen the chinese, or whoever, makes these knock offs they copy a current design with almost exact perfection, so I don't believe that you can justify the cost differential, nor do I believe that there is any signifigant performance difference between the two.
Sounds like fanuc has the volant, and I know a bunch of you use the AF1. Lets measure them up
