good morning guys - need your help please

i have a 94 ford f150 5.0 xlt 2 wheel drive with 130k miles on it - the truck has been great up until this morning - she'll turn over but it wont start - never had this problem before this morning

i may drive the truck once a week to home depot & the dump

if it makes any difference this morning it's raining here BUT again - she always started before this morning

any thoughts on what i might look for

I thought '94's had 5.0's. The 4.6's didn't come out until '96 or '97.

 

i'm sorry you might be right - my 93 CV has a 4.6 so maybe my truck is a 5.0

No matter what engine really... Start with the basics. Does the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on? Is there pressure at the fuel rail. Are all ignition wires plugged in tightly. Did you put gas in it.
Post a little more on the things that you've tried and I can help you better.

 

yup she has a 1/4 tank of gas

i do smell fuel when i turn it over (strange that it would just go bad since i drove the truck this past tuesday)

i'll go out and press all the wires on the plugs and coil just to make sure they are seated

I'm going to guess there is moisture in the distributer cap and or plug wires starting to fail. A complete tune up, new plugs, high quality wires and a hi quality distributer cap with a vent. the vent is very important. If you want to diagnose the problem when the truck is in operating mode shut it off get a misting type of squirt bottle (old windex bottle or something) add water start spraying eletrical system start with cap wait a few seconds and try to start, when you find the offending unit you can just change that. Also at that age try the coil it could have a small crack at the tower allowing the dampness to short it out.

I know you got the problem solved ...but wd-40 works great when your in a jam and need to remove moisture from your Dist. cap

 

gave that a shot first as it's raining pretty bad here today - but when i looked at the cap and rotor it looked like it was never changed

swapped it and she fired right up BUT i'll keep a can in the truck just in case
