Angry 2002 Supercrew using oil-why?

I have a 2002 Supercrew 4x4 with 50,000 miles on it. I have noticed in the past two oil changes that I'm a quart low at around 2,000 miles. Previously, the engine has not used a drop of oil between oil changes (I change every 2,500 miles).

I typically have used the Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend. But I haven't always been able to get it. So recently have been using Quaker State 5W-20 (non-synthetic blend).

Question #1: What could be the reason for the sudden loss of oil?

Question #2: Is it related to the switch in brand/type of oil?

Question #3: Is there a way to remedy the situation?

There is no obvious blue smoke at start-up or when running. Nor is there any evidence of leaking on the garage floor.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

My 82 Bronco did exactly this until I learned that it took 6 quarts of oil instead of 5.

Annoyed the daylights out of me for a year. After that, it used a lot less.....

put it down as "its getting broken in"

engines "useing" or "loosing" oil without leaving drips and such is not a big deal

thats just the way it is

thats why they say to check your oil with every fill-up

...zap!
