Tune Ups

How much does a good tune-up usually cost when done at a dealership shop?

Depends what they find and who works there. The dealership here is terrible. They do work based purely on mileage, not on condition of the vehicle, and you get to foot the bill for something that may have laster another two years or more.

Other times they might find $15 in fluids to fill up and charge you $80 or more for the labour that you could have done yourself by running to the local Canadian Tire (or american equivalent ) and buying them yourself.

Other dealerships may have fixed rates for such things, I don't know for sure.

I would highly recommend you find a mechanic that you trust who does not work at a dealership, or a knowledgeable friend to have a look and see what needs doing before you actually have any work done.

Personally, I go to the Dealship for the regularly scheduled maintenance intervals that my booklet calls for. However, I do not allow any fixes or repairs unless its truely needed and if it is needed, I bring it to another garage where I know the mechanics and can trust them, and get a lower labor rate. Basically I just use the Dealership for the standard stuff, oil changes, filter changes, etc. Any major work that needs to be done I go elsewhere.

It all depends though, if you happen to come across a really good dealer that you can trust, so be it. I generally dont trust them much though
