2003 4.6l Engine Oil???
2003 4.6l Engine Oil???
Guys I'm fixing to change the engine oil in my 03 4.6L F150 for the first time. It only has 28,570 miles. Some have told me to use 5W 30 on such a new engine. Is this true? What brand should I buy? I'd like to stay consistant with what has been in the truck, but don't know what was used before I bought it. What does Ford Motor Company usually run in their vehicles? Thanks.

I hope your oil has been changed at at least the 5000 mile intervals.
Your user book calls for 5w20 Motorcraft oil a blend.
It is usually around 2.40 a qt in my area.
Change the filter each time with an 820s.
You don't need any other oil.
I am at 60k+ on 5w20 and pull a trailer with the total combined weight, in hot summer, of nearly 12,000 lbs.

I agree with Bluegrass.
FoMoCo recomends Motorcraft 5w/20 synthetic blend oil and a Motorcraft 820S filter for your truck. Since both are usually found at Wallyworld for reasonable prices, why use anything else?
I have 101,000 trouble-free miles using this combo exclusively at 4000 mile intervals, and I honestly expect 200,000+ with no problems (at least not oil-related).

I run 5w20 in the winter and 5w30 in the summer in the 4.6L and comin up on 100K. Whatever name brand synthetic is on sale gets run, and I either use the 7dollar Napa filter or if I buy enough other parts at the ford dealer they throw a Motorcraft filter in on the house.
Real easy on these trucks to do a change (Im done with the '97 before the Powerstroke is even done draining), and heres some tips for ya.
Make sure you drive around for a few miles to get the oil warm.
The 5 quart pans don't work here like on the ole 302's and 351s, so make sure you have a bigger pan to hold everything (assuming the engine is full).
While the oil is draining, I use another pan that I hold right under the front corner of the bumper while unscrewing the filter to catch what drips out and then just let the filter fall into the pan.
(you still shouldn't have spilled anything...lol)
After everything stops drippin, put the plug back in and screw on the filter after putting a bit of oil on the rubber gasket.
Fill it with 6 quarts and take the used oil to a walmart service center.
