Egr ??

is the egr sensor/valve? do that have anything to do with cold starts in the winter. at stops and then accelerating can cause pause or it wants to die. does that has to do with exhaust going back into the engine on cold starts? again eger is that the same thing as a (differential pressure feedback exhaust gas sensor)? and where is that sensor located on a 98 4.6lt xlt 4x4?

The egr valve is what opens and closes to allow the egr system to work. It is controlled by an EVR solenoid, and the sensor you mentioned, known as the DPFE sensor, monitors whether or not it's working properly, and send the info to the ECM. A failure in the EGR system can result in a stumble off the line, as well as hard cold starts, and stalling when coming to a stop. An inoperative system can result in increased engine temps, pinging, and poor performance.

JUST A QUICK QUESTION.

What is the point in putting hot exhuast gas back into a supercharger.
Does this not defeat the object of cool air intake.
Or does the EGR system only operate when engine is cold in order to warm up quicker.

A lot of pipework for little gain ??

The reason is I am soon to install a new higer performance long block and blower, so remove now if it's only some emision gadget and have the tune adjusted accordingley.

BTW Happy Christmas Guys & Girls :santa:

I couldn't tell you, as I don't have any experience working on the blown 5.4's. The way the EGR system works, though, the exhaust gas that's recirculated actually causes a drop in combustion chamber temps. I don't know if that applies to a boosted engine, but it does apply to N/A engines. Also, the EGR only works under part throttle. At idle and WOT, it is never used.

Thanks for the info.

It maybe that the percenrage of re-circ hot gas has a very low oxygen content hence the lower combustion - just an idea.

I will have the answer when it's install time and have spoken with my tuner.

EGR.
Invoked during cruise conditions to lower combustion temps that cause nitrogen oxide emmisions.
What rules do you have to live with?
Your tuner can turn it off, in the program, if he has that ability.
Leaving it in operation is no big deal.
It does not work at WOT.
Playing games with it may bring you other problems during cruise because the program leans fuel and advances the ingition timing independent of the hardware.
Your a bit over concerned about this, IMO.
Good luck.
