More Power!

More Power!
I own a 05' F-150 and although it has 300 HP and is damn quick for a crewcab 4x4 i want more power. It isnt a street truck nor ever will be. Im lifting it in a few months. I am already getting ready to buy a new exhaust which will give me anywhere from 14-20 more engine HP. But of couse im not only looking for hp but torque. I was thinking a chip but i odnt know which one if any. Or mabye a cold air intake. Im not looking to spend 5 grand on a supercharger so thats out of the question.

Ford claims your truck has "300" horsepower, which is true if you measure horsepower at the motor. In reality your truck only has about 225 horse power at the rear wheels, which is where you measure true horsepower. Your truck can have 500 horsepower but if you only 300 hp to the rear wheels via the transmission then you really only have a 300 hp truck.
Also, when you add all kinds of other modifications they are not cumulative as you may think. You certainly wont add 72 hp by doing all these modifications though they will help. With that being said, I believe you should check out the chips and programming section and also the exhaust section to see what others think you should do.
I personally have a 05 Screw with 5.4 with Flowmaster exhaust, K&N intake, and Troyer Performance XCal2 tuner and I am very happy with it.
To be honest with you, the intake and exhaust help the truck "breathe" better and helps the throttle response a little more, but the best bang for the buck will be a tuner.

I wouldn't hesitate 1 second to use his tuning expertise again-phil

When you get hit with the reality check of what that exhaust will do for you, let us know. Expect a gain of maybe 5 if you're damn lucky.
There are several blowers out there well under 5 grand. A good programmer will aid in your quest for power, but still isn't going to be 70 some HP. You won't get 70 RWHP if you add every bolt on (excluding the blower) out there. (and by bolt on, I mean bolt on. Not cams and extensive work)
Also, for something that mild, you don't need a custom tune. I never understand why everyone wants to recommend a custom tune for a non-custom truck.

I never said 15-20 RWHP i said 15-20 engine which is what it will add according to these companies. So mabye you should learn to read better. It does add that much but when you do power to weight ratio and the truck being like a half ton truck it will only add lik 5-8 to the RW's. You should learn a lil bit more before you talk

i would say you don't really need more power as much as you need to manage the power that is there a little better.
if you plan on lifting the truck then you're probably going to want to go with a bigger tire too which will cause alot of torque loss. changing the gearing is the best thing to do and will give you the biggest change in acceleration.
putting the 4.56 gears in my truck is the best thing i could have done to make it more fun to drive. people say you lose power in the higher speeds but i've got no problems getting the truck to 100mph in a hurry. my gas mileage isn't that bad either unless i start getting to 75mph+ but you're not really thinking about mileage when you're driving that fast.

In my first post, I was kidding him a bit.
He still has a reality check to lean about working on these trucks.
Would you believe the moon is made of green cheese?
It 'ain't' a Mustang.
Now if you go the blower route and do some other things then it begins to get interesting; but why would we know any of that?

Like I said, don't believe anything you read. I didn't mean to come accross as a ****, as I may well have, but you have to realize that 99% of these companies make their sales with "creative" marketing. MOST exhaust mods will net you, if lucky, 2-4 HP. If you take into effect that a 2005 F150 has 300FWHP and about 225RWHP, divide 300 by 225 and its 1.333. Now take that 1.333 and conservatively multiply by 3, and you get 3.999. Thats 3.999FWHP. Even if you went high and said x 5 your still only at 6.665FWHP. Its kinda like that new Jeep Rubicon, advertised as the most capable 4x4 ever. Is it really, no, its just a marketing ploy that people are falling for daily. It is very capable, but not the most capable ever.
Just the facts, sorry if I seemed like a ****, I just hate to see people be disappointed at lackluster performance from advertised "super mods."
