Pull the heater **** off and check to see if it's cracked. I had the same problem only my air would only blow cold. Turns out that the **** was cracked and didn't grab ahold of the pin. Hopefully it works out for ya.
Word of advice pray to GOD it NOT your heater core....christ sakes thats a long day when you drop a heater core in a 98 F-150

Sounds like the blend door is not opening fully. The blend door sits in the same box as the heater core and is notorious for messing up, especially shortly after the heater core was changed and the blend door was not installed properly. The whole dash has to come out and in a nutshell the previous poster had it right, it is a very, very long day. If it does turn out to be your blend door, or if you wind up taking the dash out to find out (which if it isnt the broken ****, you will end up doing if you ever want heat again) go ahead and replace the heater core, it is too cheap not to, after going through all that trouble, a person does whatever he can not to have to do it again. Oh, by the way, the blend door is the door that opens when you turn the **** to let hot air in, and when you turn the **** the other way, it closes off the section that the heater core is in so that only cold air will come out. Good Luck.

If its the blend door, the dash doesn't need to come off in some models such as yours. THe blend door on some is located directly above the trans hump behind the cheap black blastic under the bottom of the radio. REmove that and you can get to it, making it about an hour job. I can get you diagrams if you tell me year, 4x4 or 4x2, etc...
